PENNANT RESURRECTED

Peter Sharp and Neville Huxford of the West Christchurch University senior team receive the Press Pennant at the opening of the 1968-69 season from Canterbury Cricket Association President, Jack Saunders and Canterbury Cricket's Chairman, Jack Kerr.

A little history will take place on 5 October 2019 when Christchurch Metro Cricket are resurrecting the Premiership Pennant. This will be presented to the team which proved to be the best team over the three formats from the previous season. This will be presented to Ben Langrope, the winning captain of the St Albans team who won the One-day and Twenty20 formats and finished runners-up in the Two-day competition.

This was presented in previous times on club opening days and, while we can find no initial presentation of the Pennant in the archives of Canterbury Cricket’s Annual Reports, we can trace it to at least the 1950s.

Clubs will fly the Pennant from their flag-pole throughout the following season indicating proudly their Premiership status.
