Lesley Murdoch elected NZC Vice President
Former New Zealand cricketer, current Christchurch Metro Cricket Board member and double international Lesley Murdoch has been elected vice president of New Zealand Cricket at the organisation’s 127th Annual General Meeting.
Lesley is well known among Christchurch Cricket circles, having completed a three year term as the CMCA President at our October AGM and now joining the Board as a Director. On hearing of the news CMCA Chairman Bruce Findlay commented that;
“NZ Cricket have made a fabulous choice in Lesley and it is great recognition of the respect, credibility and mana she has within the cricket community. It is a great acknowledgement of her outstanding record and contribution as a leader, player, administrator, broadcaster and contributor from the very highest level of the game to grassroots cricket and all of those associated with the CMCA are all thrilled for you.”
Lesley, who played six Tests and 25 One Day Internationals for the New Zealand women’s team (captaining it in both formats) and represented her country in hockey at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, has been elected Vice President for a one-year term, following which she becomes eligible for nomination for the role of NZC President.
A life member of the CMCA and NZC, a member of the Hood Committee that modernised the old New Zealand Cricket Council in 1995, and a prominent sports broadcaster and commentator, she joins former team-mate and current President Debbie Hockley as an NZC office-bearer.
Debbie’s second three-year term will expire in November 2022.
