With the 2018-19 cricket season in the memory banks, we can reflect on how performances from the season have continued some and brought the curtain down on one outstanding career.
The major retirement announcement came from Burnside West stalwart Scott Inglis, who ended his career at the Premier level aged 46.
With 184 one-day wickets, Inglis is the top all-time wicket taker in this format, and he also ranks 4th on the list of all-time appearances behind Robbie Frew, Scott Pawson and Aaron Johnstone. Inglis also claimed 431 two-day wickets in a lengthy career of 147 two-day games.
Speaking of Aaron Johnstone, he has the most dismissals of any gloveman in the history of Christchurch Club Cricket (combined one and two-day). There is just one keeping record that eludes Johnstone, that being the most two-day dismissals, he is now just 11 behind Brent Glanville, a record he will surely claim next season.
The evergreen Chris Harris continues to work his way up the appearance standings, run scoring charts and wicket taking lists as does Ben McCord who is playing some of the best club cricket of his career, claiming the player of the season in two of the last three years.
Others who can now be defined as stalwarts include Ben Langrope, who brought up 100 one-day fixtures for St Albans during the season, Ben Rapson, who sits on 99 games, Greg Dawson, whose consistent run-scoring has been impressive over a ten year stretch and recent Riccarton recruit from Canterbury Country, Liam Bartholomeusz.
The likes of Matt Farrant, Matt Holstein, Carl Huyser and James O’Gorman have build outstanding records and are of such an age that they still have some of their best years ahead of them.
Interestingly a number of Canterbury’s best players including current skipper Cole McConchie, Andrew Ellis, Todd Astle and Theo van Woerkom all have outstanding club records behind them before moving on to higher honours.
