In an amazing finish to the season, Burnside West have claimed the OEM Audio Two-Day Premiership title after wrapping up a win against Lancaster Park with just five overs left in the season.
A combination of late starts and rain during the lunch break meant it was a busy day for the umpires and a stressful one for supporters of Burnside, St Albans and Heathcote, who were all still in title contention well into the final day.
Heathcote bowled brilliantly to knock over St Albans for 81 and leave a chase of 120, with a 10 wicket win needed for the extra bonus points, but St Albans also were at the top of their game with the ball, and Heathcote's hopes faded and were eventually extinguished as they were all out for 99.
With that win all St Albans could do was wait for the outcome at Burnside Park, with the hosts needing two wickets and Lancaster Park 30 runs as the overs ticked away. It was skipper Matt Hay who brought himself back on and claimed the 9th wicket and the ever-popular Jackson Latham who claimed the final wicket to wrap things up for Burnside West.
